The holiday season is over, and with it, the frenzy of holiday shopping fades into the background, replaced by New Year’s resolutions, schedules, and goals. We’re back on the hamster wheel. It’s the end of January, and just as you’ve finally caught your breath after tackling the annual puzzle of finding the perfect gifts for everyone at Christmas, guess what’s speeding toward you like a freight train? A new challenge—one of the most superficial, commercialized, and utterly made-up holidays, yet somehow one of the most romantic and eagerly anticipated days of the year: Valentine’s Day.

What not to do on Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s Day isn’t technically a “real” holiday, but you wouldn’t know it by how much brands and retailers have worked overtime to convince us that we must spend our hard-earned cash on chocolates, flowers, “he went to Jared” trinkets, clouds of heart-shaped balloons, and red dresses—all for just one single day.
Sure, we’ll eat that chocolate for a few days (with a hint of guilt), the flowers will shrivel up, and the dress will soon sit unused in our closet until it gets donated. By next season, it’ll be so out of style, you wouldn’t dare wear it again. And those cheery balloons? They’ll either float away to get stuck in trees or end up in the trash bin before the night is out.
Many of us today are leaning towards experiences over things, and I’m all for it. Trust me—I made my family promise no more stuff this year, just quality time. I’m detoxing, freeing myself from the nagging urge to accumulate things. And if I do end up buying anything, I approach it like a true eco-pro. I you would like to learn how to do it yourself, I am sharing everything in my blogs and on my website. Please feel free to join me and we can detoxify and clean up our closets and our lives together.

If your love language happens to be giving or receiving gifts, that’s totally fine, too. There’s still plenty of room for beautiful, meaningful things in our lives—we just need to approach buying them with a bit more savoir-faire.
So, from me to you I am sharing a few carefully curated things and experiences that carry stories—of people, places, and traditions—that will spark lasting memories. They may even become cherished heirlooms. After all, everything that carries meaning, beauty, and quality deserves to last a lifetime, just like true love does.
Who Wants a Food Coma on Valentine’s? Not me!
Skip the tired Valentine’s dinner and try a romantic high tea instead! Fancy hotels and cozy tea rooms offer gourmand mini sandwiches, scones, sweets, and bubbly for the perfect indulgence—no food coma required. Plus, it leaves your evening free for playful adventures: a dance class, live show, or a cozy (or steamy) night in.

Here are a few tips to elevate your tea ceremony experience: treat it as a special occasion and dress the part—cocktail dresses and suits are perfect. Splurge on a great location; it’s worth it. If you are not a tea drinker, why not try it for the first time and do it right. You may surprise yourself and discover a new habit that you can cherish together.
TIP: Make sure to stock up on a fabulous bottle of organic champagne and your favorite bites to enjoy at home later. You can thank me later!
Treat yourself to a real opera experience. Do it in style!
Check your local opera house for a production of one of the most romantic operas of all time, La Bohème. It might not coincide with Valentine’s Day, but book tickets for any night – and get yourself a “Pretty Woman” moment. Dust off those special-occasion frocks and tails you rarely get to wear, grab your opera glasses and be prepared to immerse yourselves into the world of music.

This is just a suggestions and a favorite. A ballet is another magical thing to watch on any day. It can be any live show, but opt for something you have not done before and surprise yourselves. Nothing enriches us more than trying new things, creating memories and challenging ourselves in conquering or mastering something difficult. An Italian Opera for many would fall into this category.
And ladies, don’t forget the two things that elevate formal wear—your confidence and a killer pair of …
A perfect gift and a must have for the Opera Night!
I know you thought I was going to say heels—yes, those too—but if you’re really ready to play dress-up, complete the look with a stunning pair of gloves from Cornelia James. If opera gloves are over the top for you or the person you are shopping for, a nice pair of every day gloves that are quality and custom made is a special treat for any occasion. Sold globally.

Fleeing Nazi-occupied Austria with just a suitcase of fabric, Cornelia James found refuge in London in 1939. There, she established her own atelier, quickly gaining recognition for her craft.
Over the decades, her dedication to elegance earned her a Royal Warrant as “Glove Manufacturer by Appointment to Her Majesty.”. These timeless gloves embody femininity and style—a true wow-factor gift that any woman would treasure. I am in love with mine.

Vintage Jewelry to Make Her Heart Skip a Beat.
I love jewelry of the past in the same way I love old clothes. There’s something magical about mixing modern style with unexpected pieces from different eras. I’m not a collector, but over the years, I’ve curated a collection of authentic vintage jewelry spanning the ’30s, ’60s, and ’70s—the very decades I love to mix, match, and play with. Each piece holds a bit of nostalgia for me, evoking distinct aesthetics from each period.

Vintage costume jewelry offers all the charm and statement without breaking the bank. Names like Crown Trifari, Vendome, Miriam Haskell, Henri Perichon, Nina Ricci, and Dorlan all contributed to the colorful and innovative jewelry landscape of these eras. Despite the fact that much of it was costume jewelry, it was always high quality, and the craftsmanship continues to make these pieces highly collectible today. Look for them on Etsy or other online marketplaces. Here I share a link to a place that has it all!
Most importantly, vintage pieces allow us to express who we are in unique ways, telling a personal story while embracing the style and creativity of those who came before us.
When Is Jewelry More Than a Valentine’s Cliché?
When it reflects more than just a desire to gift something beautiful—it becomes a gesture of purpose. Choosing ethically crafted jewelry shows thoughtfulness, ensuring the piece has a positive impact on people and the planet. It’s a gift that carries stories of fair labor, sustainability, and a commitment to the greater good, making it not just a symbol of affection but also a statement of shared values. Let me introduce one of the brands that lives up to their promises.

Imagine a diamond pendant crafted without extracting raw materials, ensuring ethical practices and fair treatment for artisans—free from the shadow of child labor.
Personalize these elegant pieces with messages of love to cherish forever. Shop with brands like Monica Vinader who reimagine fashion industry into a space of integrity, respect, and inspiration.

In my blogs, I feature sustainable brands and share tips on recognizing genuine efforts from designers and retailers to improve versus empty promises from companies chasing growth at any cost. My goal is to inspire thoughtful shopping, mindful dressing, and positive impact through everyday choices. Enchanting, Affordable Keepsakes for Him, Her, & They.
If there’s one necklace I wear daily, it’s my Plum & Posey Guiding Star pendant. It’s not just jewelry—it’s my safekeeping and a talisman.

Crafted in sterling silver, the pendant features an imprint of an old wax seal from the Georgian era, a time when letters were delivered by coaches and horses. It took days or even weeks for lovers to receive messages of devotion and hope, a thought that I find utterly enchanting.
There are so many beautiful designs to choose from. You will make someone feel incredibly special, even in today’s crazy fast world—where we almost forgot how to write in cursive, let alone writing love letters.
A spot of poetry from me to you.
A little present from me to you. Sonnet 43 ” How do I love Thee?” by Elizabeth Barrett Browning written around 1846. Victorian era was known for its emphasis on emotional depth, moral values, and refined aesthetics. Her deeply personal and passionate poetry stood out at a time when societal norms often constrained public expressions of love and emotion, especially by women. Elizabeth and Robert Browning’s love story, along with her poetry, became an iconic representation of Victorian romantic ideals.
In this poem Elizabeth beautifully conveys the boundless and eternal nature of love, encompassing every moment of life and extending into the afterlife, making it both deeply emotional and spiritually up-lifting. If nothing else, take a moment to write a heartfelt note to each other and share it aloud. Decades from now, your children will be telling their children this story.

Scarves that weave ancient Tibetan Stories.
When did fashion and trends replace style and taste? Many of us have lost our appreciation for true quality and the genuine essence of luxury—the feeling that arises when you possess something so exquisitely crafted that you want to treasure it indefinitely, like a priceless masterpiece.

Sabina Savage crafts unforgettable pieces, expertly blending practicality and beauty. With just two collections per year, she enchants the imagination with elaborate, imaginative hand-drawn tales of ancient lands, creatures, and figures, brought to life on silk through the creation of the most astonishing shawls, scarves, coats, and more. Prepare to be captivated. I promise you, you have not seen anything like this before. And make sure to view her videos on how to wear and style those incredible pieces.
For Gentle Souls Who Cherish Quiet Moments.
If your special someone is an introvert or loves taking a moment to reconnect with themselves, a good book, a retreat in nature, or a quiet small-town getaway could be just the thing. When I need to recharge, I turn to poetry, a soothing bubble bath, or my favorite magazine, Bella Grace.

More than a magazine, Bella Grace feels like a book you’ll keep revisiting—filled with inspiration, beautiful photography, and a reminder to find joy in everyday moments. It’s a perfect gift for someone who loves art, creativity, or simply slowing down. Consider gifting a subscription, despite my usual avoidance of paper, because it’s truly worth it.
Better yet, explore one of their art classes or retreats together. It’s a thoughtful way to connect and create memories—no need to wait for Valentine’s Day!
Thinks outside the chocolate box.
Of course, I must write about chocolate. My longest love affair, apart from with myself, has been with this delightful indulgence. Did you know that over 90% of the world’s cocoa is grown on small family farms, far from where it becomes chocolate? At least 70% of cocoa beans come from Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Ecuador. Cocoa farming is labor-intensive, vulnerable to market shifts and weather, and has long been linked to exploitation and child labor.

So, if you’re going to indulge, please choose responsibly. Buy from companies with strict ethical standards, ensuring fair treatment of workers and sustainable farming practices.Avoid major brands and instead, support small, transparent makers dedicated to quality and responsibility.
As a fun activity on Valentine’s Day, take a chocolate making class at a local shop or a virtual tasting. Be different, be you.

When was the last time you took a bath together? Don’t have a bath large enough for two, try giving each other massages or elevate the experience with a professional massage therapist for a private session. Conclude your day with herbal tea paired with fresh, wholesome snacks, bringing wellness and indulgence full circle.
Simply Together.
Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about grand gestures, extravagant gifts, or expensive indulgences. It’s about being simply together. It’s about finding joy in shared experiences and taking the time to connect with those you hold closest to your heart. Memories made through love and laughter will always outshine anything material, and the stories you create together will be the real treasures.
When you do give gifts, let them be thoughtful, meaningful, and kind to the environment. Show your love in ways that reflect your values—choosing items that bring happiness to your loved ones and respect the world we all share. Celebrate sustainably, and you’ll find that your day holds a deeper sense of fulfillment, leaving no mess behind—only lasting memories.

Thank you for reading and allowing me to share this special message.
