Poor Choices We Don’t Realize We Are Making Every Day.
What are the five simple everyday things we do on autopilot and don’t give much thought to? We sleep, we shower first thing in the morning, slap on some moisturizer, do the dishes, and put on underwear (hopefully, in that order).
Now, your list may look different, but these are my non-negotiables. In fact, I like them because they require zero brainpower—I can daydream about all sorts of things, like what I’ll write in my next blog post.
Hear me out: these daily routines, if done wrong, can cause trouble. Not just mild-inconvenience trouble, but full-blown ‘why do I feel so exhausted all the time’ trouble. Toxic ingredients are in everything—sheets, soaps, skincare, and yes, even that seamless, stretchy comfy underwear you adore.
The sad truth is, we’re constantly bathing ourselves (literally and figuratively) in chemicals. From the detergent in our laundry to the spray we freshen up the house with, it’s a never-ending exposure to things we wouldn’t willingly ingest but somehow they find their way into our home and every day , and we even pay for them! How did that happen?
I’ve broken up with a lot of everyday essentials—and, much like some past relationships, I’ve never looked back. Best decision ever. I’ve replaced them with better friends, partners, and products. It is time for you to develop new healthy habits.
Here are six simple changes I made—wish I had done them sooner!
- Upgraded my bed with healthier, organic linen sheets.
- Placed a humidifier and an air-purifying plant in my bedroom.
- Installed filters for both my drinking and shower water.
- Switched to non-toxic, enzyme-based laundry and dish detergents.
- Refreshed my underwear drawer with soft, organic cotton essentials.
- Enhanced my minimalist skincare routine with clean, natural, and vegan alternatives.
Eco-Friendly Bedroom: Healthier Choices for Better Sleep

Next time you’re refreshing your linens, consider making the switch to a brand my family has trusted for years—PARACHUTE We love all their products, from bedroom linens and duvets to towels, and I personally swear by their waffle robes and the waffle shower curtains that make my bathroom feel so cozy. You can choose the material that suits you best, but for me, it’s organic linen all the way.
Organic Linens: Essential for a Cozy and Luxurious Sleep.
I don’t like wearing anything to bed, so what touches my skin matters. And at this stage in life, sleep can feel like a nightly battle with the elements—one moment, a heatwave, the next, a nasty cold front. Linen helps smooth out these extremes, naturally regulating temperature , so I can actually sleep instead of waking up to adjust the thermostat—or sit in bed for hours rethinking my life choices. Sounds familiar?
Sleeping in organic linen sheets is one of those small luxuries that feels indulgent but is actually a wise investment in your well-being. Linen is naturally breathable, it softens with every wash, becoming more inviting over time, and since organic linen is free from pesticides and harsh chemicals, you’re not spending eight hours a night pressed against residues you’d rather not think about. A peaceful, chemical-free sleep? That’s the kind of beauty treatment we should all sign up for.
I love PARACHUTE linen sets, made in Portugal from the finest European flax—garment-washed, free of anything harmful, and incredibly soft. My favorite shade is Dove, but if you prefer a different palette, Parachute has plenty of options to match your mood. My bed is dressed in Linen Venice set, including a fitted and flat sheet, two pillowcases, and the most luxurious large square Linen Box Quilt with matching pillow shams.

For colder nights, I layer it with their down duvet and linen duvet cover, which is an absolute must for longevity of your duvet. It’s light as a feather (no pun intended!) yet exceptionally warm. I’m comfortable purchasing real down because Parachute sources exclusively from RDS-certified (Responsible Down Standard) suppliers, ensuring the down comes from humanely treated ducks and geese and is a byproduct of the food industry. If you have allergies, they also offer a down alternative for the same plush comfort.
And if linen isn’t your thing, Parachute has plenty of options, including organic percale, brushed cotton, cotton sateen, and heirloom TENCEL linen – each carefully graded by weight and warmth. No matter your choice, you can rest easy knowing all materials are responsibly sourced to support a healthier, more sustainable sleep experience.
Responsible Ways to Recycle Your Old Linens Without Harming the Planet
One of the most important factors I consider before purchasing a new product is how the brand or retailer helps consumers responsibly dispose of it once it has served its purpose. In other words, do they care about what happens to their products after we’re done with them?
As an ethical company, Parachute is committed to circularity and has introduced a recycling program for its customers. They’ve partnered with SuperCircle to scale up the recycling of their materials into new products, such as furniture batting, insulation, and padding, ensuring that nothing ends up in landfills.
Keep Your Bedroom Air Clean with these simple tricks.

The snake plant is a simple effortless way to elevate your home environment—both aesthetically and functionally. Known for its ability to filter toxins like formaldehyde and benzene from the air, it also releases oxygen at night, making it an ideal bedroom companion. However, if you have a cat, you may want to place it strategically out of reach, as it can be mildly toxic when ingested. Unless, of course, you’re looking to rid your home of another allergen, in which case… well, you didn’t hear it from me.
But jokes aside, if you live in a more polluted area, like a large city, air quality can be a real concern. Pollution inevitably makes its way indoors, often becoming more concentrated inside than outside, where air circulates naturally. Investing in a high-quality air purifier is a smart choice.
Whether you opt for one for your entire home or just your bedroom, the top-rated air purifiers of 2025 both come from the same company—PUROAIR. At the very least, invest in high-quality filters, whether carbon or HEPA, and be sure to change them regularly, especially if you have pets.
Maintaining proper humidity levels improves sleep and overall well-being.
While air quality is a year-round concern, the one thing that really bothers me in winter is dry air. We rarely think about it until the cold season arrives—suddenly, our skin feels tight, our throats get scratchy, and static electricity turns everyday tasks into science experiments.
Dry air can wreak havoc on your skin, irritate your sinuses, and even make you more susceptible to colds. A humidifier helps restore balance, keeping your skin hydrated, your respiratory system happy, and even protecting wooden furniture from cracking (wait, what? I’ll get back to you on this one).

I was very skeptical about adding a humidifier to my bedroom décor until my husband convinced me we needed one.
What a difference it makes! It has improved my breathing at night, keeps dryness at bay, and I no longer feel like I constantly need to apply lotion on my hands. It also makes the bedroom air feel naturally fresh and clean.
We use both of these brands at home and love them.
If you’re concerned about a humidifier disrupting your décor, my top pick is VITRUVI – its sleek, modern design blends seamlessly into any space. For a more budget-friendly, square-shaped option, LEVOIT is a great choice. I prefer the smaller version, as it looks neat and also lets you regulate air temperature. Both brands also offer air purifiers if you’re looking to further enhance your indoor air quality.
Crystal Clear: Protect the Water You Drink & Shower With
So far we have taken care of the air we breathe, investing in air purifiers, plants, and humidifiers to create a healthier home. But just as important is the water we drink and bathe in. From hydration to skincare, clean water plays a vital role in our well-being. Filtering your drinking water removes contaminants, ensuring every sip nourishes your body, while a quality shower filter protects your skin and hair from harsh chemicals. Prioritizing both clean air and pure water is a simple yet powerful way to elevate your health and daily comfort.
I’m all about staying hydrated. I work out regularly—jogging, doing Peloton, taking gym classes, and going to the sauna—which means I sweat a lot. While this is great for my health, proper hydration is key. One thing I avoid is buying bottled water, especially in plastic. It’s one of the most wasteful and unnecessary habits we can easily eliminate. Investing in a high-quality, reusable, and eco-friendly water bottle not only saves money but also benefits the planet. I personally love LifeFactory, but there are plenty of options to match your aesthetic.
Filling up your stylish, sustainable bottle with tap water? Do so with caution. Honestly, I hadn’t given it much thought until recently, when I started focusing on new healthy habits. That’s when we decided to get scientific and test our water quality. We used a TESPERT testing kit, a brand I chose because they track and offset the carbon footprint of their products.
There are other testing options available, and if you’re looking for an in-depth analysis, you might want to invest in an Advanced and EPA Certified test. We kept it simple, yet our results were eye-opening enough to make us rethink our approach at home. As a result, we made two small but impactful changes: we purchased a RORRA countertop water filtration system and upgraded to Jolie Filtered Showerheads.
RORRA can generate a water quality report based on your zip code, giving you insights into what’s in your tap water. Plus, if you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA), you may be able to use those funds to purchase RORRA products. Eligibility requirements apply, and all the details can be found on their website. Another great option for a countertop water filtration system is Bluevua Reverse Osmosis Water Purification system. One of the best on the market. It is a bit more of an investment, but we are investing in our health, so well worth it over time.
Jolie clinically tested shower heads help soften water and reduce harmful chemicals, which is especially beneficial for hair and skin health. While they don’t eliminate all contaminants, they significantly reduce them—and the difference was noticeable right away. The water feels smoother, almost silky, as it flows over your body, and both hair and skin retain more moisture instantly. At first, we thought it might be a placebo effect—our minds wanting the products to work because we invested in them. But no, the change is real. Every time we step into the shower, we can feel it.
Dishes and Laundry Essentials to Detoxify Your Home.
If you’ve ever felt like you’re doing everything “right”—eating well, getting enough sleep, staying hydrated, and exercising regularly—but still feel off, it might be time to take a closer look at what’s hiding in plain sight. What are you using to wash your dirty dishes and laundry?
I don’t understand it! We splurge on organic avocados but think nothing of tossing a giant plastic tub of Cascade into our shopping cart like it’s no big deal. Loading your dishwasher with this detergent means you’ll clean your dishes with chlorine bleach, phosphates, fragrance and other unknown and undisclosed, chemicals. From cancer concerns to nervous system effects and ecotoxicity, this detergent has a lot wrong with it. Let’s not pick on just one brand, but honestly, most conventional dishwashing liquids or pods are a toxic cocktail.
Where do all these lovely chemicals go when they wash away? Straight into water sources, where they wreak havoc on marine life, and eventually make it back into our system throuhg food. Bon appétit!

You really don’t have to deal with any of these risks. Even conventional grocery stores now offer better options, but I want to help take your dishwashing and laundry habits to the next level—turning these simple daily routines into an eco-friendly joy. I’ve been using a variety of sustainable and responsible brands for cleaning the home, and since today we are focusing on laundry and dishes, it’s all about Dirty Labs, one of my favorites for years.
Dirty Labs and their 5-in-1 enzyme-driven cleaning technology are designed to offer cleaning solutions as effective as, or even better than, conventional petroleum-based products—but without relying on harmful chemicals. It’s the perfect blend of science and nature, delivering top-notch performance with all-natural ingredients.
Designed to remove the toughest stains.
Permastank and odor eliminator.
Brightens for more vibrant whites and colors.
Removes yellow stains caused by sweat and sebum.
Compatible with traditional and HE washers.
Optimized for cold water.
Septic safe.
Nontoxic, Biodegradable formula.

One of the challenges with natural solutions is that they don’t always get the job done—my husband’s biggest pet peeve when it comes to dishes. But ever since we switched to Dirty Labs powder detergent, he hasn’t complained once! The dishes come out perfectly clean, and the dishwasher stays fresh and spotless.
I love a good white shirt—it’s my daily go-to in my design studio, layered under a jacket or sweater, or styled up or down for any occasion. With so much wear, keeping them crisp and bright (without yellowing or underarm stains) is essential. Since I invest in quality pieces, I hand-wash them for better care.
Dirty Labs laundry detergent, paired with their booster, has been a game-changer for maintaining bright whites. I’ve tried both the scented and fragrance-free—personally, I prefer unscented, but if you love a light fragrance, rest assured it’s naturally derived, with all ingredients transparently disclosed and safe.
Speaking of white shirts, I’ve rounded up my top five sustainable brands offering well-tailored, responsibly sourced, and beautifully finished white shirts. Check out the “5 Most Recommended White Shirst for a Sustainable Capsule Collection” blog post to discover these timeless wardrobe staples!
As a sustainability advocate, I always consider not just the quality of a product but also its packaging. It’s frustrating to see organic produce wrapped in plastic, or a perfet linen or silk dress lined with ployester! That’s why I appreciate Dirty Labs—their packaging is 100% recyclable aluminum and cardboard. Their highly concentrated formulas mean smaller packaging, less waste, and more value per use. Plus, they provide measuring tools to prevent overuse and are constantly innovating to do better. I love brands that take us along on their sustainability journey, offering real solutions and resources.

Along with bed linens, your undergarments and workout clothes are the closest to your skin. Most of us wear our panties and bras all day, every day—so shouldn’t they be not just comfortable but also made from non-toxic, natural, and preferably organic materials?
Speaking of organic, let’s clear up some misconceptions.
You’re right to think that “organic” refers to fibers grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or genetically modified seeds. However, that’s only part of the equation. Just as important is how these raw materials are processed. The fabric should be dyed with non-toxic, natural dyes instead of conventional chemical-based colors. This also means that the factories handling these processes must meet strict certifications, ensuring that all dyes and technologies used are tested and verified for safety.
When a brand claims a product is organic, they should be able to prove it with certifications. If they don’t disclose this information, it’s best to steer clear.
This brings me to a brand I would like to introduce today – MATE.

MATE is a brand created by women, for women—and who better to understand our unique needs and challenges?
First, all their materials are GOTS-certified organic, and they maintain the highest standards across their entire supply chain. Their motto, “Essentials clean from seed to skin,” says it all. Everything is traceable and transparent. From detailed impact reports to materials and factories, all the information is readily available for consumers to review before making an investment. No false claims, no empty marketing slogans—just genuine, sustainable practices you can trust. My go-to favorites so far:
- Organic Stretch Pocket Legging – Beautifully seamed, stretchy, shape-retaining, and perfect for workouts. Soft materials with great coverage.
- Organic Stretch Sports Bra – unpadded , double layer for extra support & coverage, very comfortable for low-moderate type of activity.
- Organic Cotton Classic Tee – organic cotton jersey perfect crewneck
- Organic Comfort Mid Rise Bikini – Lightweight with the perfect stretch & rise—organic, but far from grandma’s panties!
I know what you’re thinking—this might seem too basic and not sexy enough. But trust me, nothing is sexier than feeling good in your skin, rocking a classic tee and comfy undies. Save the delicate French lace lingerie for special occasions—check out one of my favorites, the Papillon collection by Huit. But for everyday wear, a cleaner, more comfortable choice just makes sense. After all, we’re dressing for ourselves first. And let’s be honest—the simple bikini briefs will come off just as quickly as the fancy, strappy, see-through ones when the moment’s right.
I’m passionate about discovering and sharing the best brands that uphold high ethical and sustainability standards—despite the fashion industry’s resistance to change. Eco-Minimalist Skincare Routine: Simple & Clean Beauty

As I simplify and clean up my life, I’m embracing minimalist habits—including my skincare routine. We don’t need endless layers of products. A high-quality cleanser, a nourishing moisturizer, a safe and effective sunscreen, and a good retinol serum to maintain youthful skin—these four essentials are all you really need. You can add products based on your specific needs, but don’t overdo it. In this case, less is truly more—just make sure the ingredients are high-quality and natural, or you might do more harm than good.
This is just one of many amazing companies I’ve recently discovered, and I’ll be sharing and reviewing more great brands on my website, blog, and email. But for now, I want to highlight a recent favorite—Herbivore.
Herbivore Botanicals is a US brand that harnesses natural ingredients to deliver the same results as conventional products—without the harsh chemicals. I use their products daily and love how they feel on my skin. My personal picks are simple:
- MOON FRUIT 1% Bakuchiol + Peptides Retinol Alternative Serum
- MOON DEW 1% Bakuchiol + Peptides Retinol Alternative Firming Eye Cream
- PINK CLOUD Rosewater + Tremella Creamy Jelly Cleanser
- PINK CLAY Cleansing Bar Soap
- PINK CLOUD Soft Moisture Cream
- STAR SEED Sheer Glow Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30
I absolutely love Herbivore’s retinol-alternative serum—it’s incredibly gentle on my skin, with no redness or irritation like some traditional retinol products. The results are just as effective, and it feels amazing with no added fragrance. In fact, none of their products contain synthetic scents, yet they still have a light, natural aroma. Plus, everything is 100% plant-based.
The eye firming cream is designed specifically for the delicate eye area, but since the serum is so gentle, I’ve been tempted to use it all over. I’m currently testing the cream to see how it compares. The formula is thicker and creamier, which I prefer for under the eyes as it’s richer and more nourishing.
Their cleanser is fantastic—it leaves my skin soft, hydrated, and completely free of makeup with no residue. A little moisturizer afterward, and I’m good to go. I also tried their gentle bar soap as an alternative to the liquid cleanser, and I love it just as much. It’s a great low-waste option, easier to travel with, and cuts down on recycling. So now, I keep both on hand!
I love the story behind this brand and their commitment to doing good for the planet, even in the face of a highly competitive conventional skincare industry. While they’re not new to the market—they’ve been successfully creating clean, effective products since 2011—their dedication remains strong. I’m excited to try more from their line in the future, and if you’re inspired to give them a try as well, leave a comment below and share your experience with our community!
